What is Toolbox
This is a web based tool
to help back the dawn chorus!. It will help you identify birds, find
out more about them including how to create native bird friendly habitat
as part of your project. BirdGuide is still being developed.
Bird Lists
One thing it already does
is enable users to create a bird list. There are a number of bird lists
that can be seen already. To create a bird list for your site go to
"Site Manager" in your password area. You need to have been
given this role by your family or group.
The bird lists can be used
for what ever reason you want. Eg:
- to list what was here
before
- what is here now
- what we want to reintroduce.
You can create as many lists
as you want. Any bird found in NZ can be selected by species name and
added to a list. Notes about each bird observation can be added.
Future Plans
- An online administration
area for editing details about birds has also been created for the
contributors to BirdGuide.
- More features will be
added based on your feedback including making it more user friendly.
- There are currently no
pictures, video clips, sounds or distribution maps on the website,
but these will be added progressively by NZERN members.
- Links will be made from
each species to Birdlife International, Birdnet and other useful sites.
- Useful reading references
will be supplied.
- In 2003 any registered
user will be able to report bird observations by location.
- An online forum will
be created for interested users.
- Data can be available
for sharing with other organisations including DoC, Landcare Research
and Ornithological Society of New Zealand.
